Todays Love Oxford is about an event that I went to last month called the Marketing Meetup. Marketing Meetups are run by Fe-line Women regular, Lucy Eckley and her business Blue Penguin Communications. Blue Penguin Communications is all about helping companies with their communications and the Marketing Meetups are a newest addition to Lucy’s business.
The Marketing Meetup brings a small group of people together who are all running their own businesses and therefore sharing the same frustrations and difficulties. Marketing your own business can be tough and despite having worked in marketing for seven years and knowing the theory really well, I still have trouble getting some of my own ideas off the ground.
The last Marketing Meetup was really useful for me as I spend a lot of time working on my own and alone with my thoughts. Other creative people will know that too much time alone with your own thoughts can lead to the most amazing ideas that are not practical in anyway shape or form. The Marketing Meetup provided me with an excellent sounding board for some of my ideas and was really good to get an honest reaction.
What I also took from the group was one woman told me that I was good at presenting myself and Fe-line Women. This was a massive confidence boost for me as I am always listening to my own opinion that I am quite rubbish at it. Hearing this from someone else has given me a real boost to get out there and tell the world about Fe-line Women.
What is different about the Marketing Meetup is that Lucy sets you an action plan to do for the next month’s event. Writing out the practical steps that you are going to take is a really good way of breaking down the massive task that is in front of you.
And ultimately what I love about the Marketing Meetups is that it is people helping other people, which is incredibly Fe-line. I was able to use my blogging knowledge to help another woman get blogging and provide some practical advice about branding.
The Marketing Meetups happen monthly in Witney, Oxfordshire. The next one is this Wednesday the 17th April and I will be attending. Lucy has kindly offered Fe-line readers a 50% discount for this event so you get your ticket for £10 instead of £20.
