Our Love Oxford post this week has to be about the Big Society, a new pub on the Cowley Road. We are bigging up the Big Society this week because they let us take over part of their pub on Saturday and put on the Fe-line Frock Swap.
Frock Swapping at the Big Society
The Fe-line Frock Swap went really well, a lot of swapping went on and many new fabulous outfits were formed for only £2. The Big Society was the best venue to host it, it is almost like I have been waiting for this venue to arrive in Oxford as it perfectly complements what Fe-line is all about, friendly, welcoming and is a little bit quirky and kitsch.
The Big Society is not only a great addition for Fe-line but on a personal note a much needed addition to Oxford pub life. As a non Oxford native I have always felt that Oxford lacks good bars that aren’t too pretentious or chainy. The Big Society is the kind of place you can go on a relaxed night out with friends but is a little fancier than your local pub.
We have even been shoe phoning in the Big Society!
In the day the Big Society serves great American style food, burgers, wings and hot dogs, you can play ping pong, do your homework using their wifi or shop in one of their pop up shops on a Saturday, like the Frock Swap. In the evening they have a good selection of beers and cocktails, DJs and a beer garden.
I have already spent quite a lot of time hanging out at the Big Society and some of the things that I love are: drinks in jam jars, playing ping pong, playing old school Guess Who, having Fe-line meetings there, welcoming staff, great artwork on the wall, their excellent branding and great burgers!! I see really big things for this place it has a really vibe and is something a little bit different for Oxford! How exciting!
We couldn’t resist adding this picture of our cutest Frock Swapper, Grace, in the onesie that she got, her Mum reports that she doesn’t want to take it off!

With only a few days to go until the next Fe-line Frock Swap, the boot of my car is overflowing with clothes. Yesterday my task was to sort through what I have collected from friends. I am always amazed by the awesome stuff we get for the swap but I have to say this might be our best one ever and I haven’t even seen what the rest of you have to swap yet! We have Topshop tops, Oasis dresses, jeans, beautiful frocks and men’s shirts. There is a really good mix of sizes, genders and styles, there really is something for everyone.
The weather was so beautiful yesterday I thought I would take some pictures of what will be up for grabs on Saturday.
