Todays Love Oxford is about an event that I went to last month called the Marketing Meetup. Marketing Meetups are run by Fe-line Women regular, Lucy Eckley and her business Blue Penguin Communications. Blue Penguin Communications is all about helping companies with their communications and the Marketing Meetups are a newest addition to Lucy’s business.
The Marketing Meetup brings a small group of people together who are all running their own businesses and therefore sharing the same frustrations and difficulties. Marketing your own business can be tough and despite having worked in marketing for seven years and knowing the theory really well, I still have trouble getting some of my own ideas off the ground.
The last Marketing Meetup was really useful for me as I spend a lot of time working on my own and alone with my thoughts. Other creative people will know that too much time alone with your own thoughts can lead to the most amazing ideas that are not practical in anyway shape or form. The Marketing Meetup provided me with an excellent sounding board for some of my ideas and was really good to get an honest reaction.
What I also took from the group was one woman told me that I was good at presenting myself and Fe-line Women. This was a massive confidence boost for me as I am always listening to my own opinion that I am quite rubbish at it. Hearing this from someone else has given me a real boost to get out there and tell the world about Fe-line Women.
What is different about the Marketing Meetup is that Lucy sets you an action plan to do for the next month’s event. Writing out the practical steps that you are going to take is a really good way of breaking down the massive task that is in front of you.
And ultimately what I love about the Marketing Meetups is that it is people helping other people, which is incredibly Fe-line. I was able to use my blogging knowledge to help another woman get blogging and provide some practical advice about branding.
The Marketing Meetups happen monthly in Witney, Oxfordshire. The next one is this Wednesday the 17th April and I will be attending. Lucy has kindly offered Fe-line readers a 50% discount for this event so you get your ticket for £10 instead of £20.
To claim your 50% discount enter the discount code: Fe-line, on the Marketing Meetup online booking form.
See you on Wednesday night! Oh and delicious baked goods are included in the price Book now, with discount code Fe-line, go on you know you want to!
Love and marketing plans,
Last night’s Word of Mouth session: Communication is the key to success was an outstanding success with a great turn out despite competing with Valentine’s Day.
There was a great atmosphere in the air. I started off talking about what has been going on at Fe-line Women and the exciting future Word of Mouth events that we have planned.
I explained why I had asked Lucy Eckley from Blue Penguin Communications to come along to talk. Lucy has personally been a great inspiration to me. She showed me that it is possible to do what you love and make a living out of it.
She takes on the world in a very professional and calm manner and what she says is always well thought out and comes from a place of great knowledge. Lucy did not fail to impress. She led the audience through her top 10 tips for good communications with great knowledge, confidence and humour. Read Lucy’s top tips on her blog.
I think everyone left the evening with the same feeling of warmth and encouragement. Silvia, an attendee and Fe-line Women supporter, said: “It was fantastic – I love coming along and meet all these wonderful female creatures – soooo inspiring – and I’ve come home with such a warm feeling of support and admiration.”
The Word of Mouth events are creating a strong female community for Oxford. We are supporting and helping each other. It is great to see and makes me come home with a warm fuzzy feeling too.
